Random Movie Question: Who's Eeeevvviiiiiillllllll?

For this week's RMQ, we turn our attention to the world of film villainry. The characters we love to hate, whose predestined and glorious deaths cause us joy unspeakable (yes, vengeance is wrong -- but it can still be funny).

And so, here's the question asked solely to encourage participation on the blog: Who is your favorite underrated film villain?

This is an easy one for me. Without a doubt, it's Edward the Longshanks from Braveheart. Yes, I know that Braveheart may not be found on any "underrated" movie lists, but here's why I can claim Edward as underrated -- because none of you would have thought of him. So there.

Besides, Eddie is downright eeevvviilllll. "The problem with Scotland is that it's full of Scots." "If we can't get them out, we'll breed them out."

And this gem of dialogue:
Longshanks: Archers.
English Commander: I beg pardon sire. Won't we hit our own troops ?
Longshanks: Yes... but we'll hit theirs as well. We have reserves. Attack .

And what a comeuppances good ole’ Eddie gets from Sophie Marceau’s Princess Isabella: “Death comes to us all. But before it comes to you, know this: your blood dies with you. A child who is not of your line grows in my belly. Your son will not sit long on the throne. I swear it.” Ouch.

You're gonna break any of my pretenses of snobbery on this one.

Top Dollar from The Crow (played wonderfully by Michael Wincott); Kurgan from The Highlander (a terrible but nostalgic film for me); El Diablo from El Diablo; Kaiser Soze from The Usual Suspects; and Angel Eyes from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Some others I would classify as "underrated": Indio from For a Few Dollars More; the terminator from The Terminator (the first one); Griffin Mill from The Player; Hans Gruber from Die Hard; Harry Lime from The Third Man; Mitch Leary from In the Line of Fire; David Lo Pan from Big Trouble in Little China; and Toby from The Office.

I could really go on and on. There are so many great villains out there. But I'll stop.

the awesome looking dude with the awesome voice from King Arthur...the Clive Owens version. He's great. His son is a dbag, though.

and can we count Dustin Hoffman's Capt. Hook? That's my favorite character of all time.

Crap, I didn't read the word underrated - clearly at least a couple of my suggestions were "rated."

What about the gang of sisters who repeatedly had their way with Tim Robbins in Shawshank. Man I couldn't stand those guys. How rude.

Yeah, ole Stellen Skarsgård has a truly fantastic voice, whether he is a half-crayfish creepy pirate, or a mathematical professor at MIT, or even a gay Russian sub commander.

Alex, even the name of this blog is snobby!
